The wonderful world of dermal fillers

Anti-ageing in a syringe

For many the idea of dermal fillers may seem a little foreign, or perhaps there are a few unanswered questions rolling though your mind. We hope to answer them right here. This is a little blog on the SAI dermal filler of choice called Restylane.

What is Restylane?

Restylane is a temporary hyaluronic acid dermal filler that Dr Clark uses at SAI in a variety of cosmetic procedures of the face (did you know it could also be used to reshape the nose?!) It has a smooth, soft consistency and is injected into the skin to:

  • Replace volume,
  • Fill in fine lines, wrinkles
  • Create a natural, youthful appearance

Areas that are frequently corrected with Restylane treatments include tear troughs, under-eyes, and lines around the mouth, nose, and lips. Of course there are many other indications, but this is simply the introduction to dermal filling.

There are limits

Considering the complexity of the areas/conditions being treated, as well as the aims and desires of the individual being treated, there is no ideal filler. Furthermore, no single product will be able to satisfy all requirements.

Restylane is a non-animal, stabilized hyaluronic acid (NASHA)and its benefits include:

  • Having a very low allergic potential so that skin tests are unnecessary
  • Having a very natural look and feel
  • Lasting significantly longer than many competitive products
  • Being mouldable and very easy to work with
  • With over 20 million treatments (as of January 2014)

Did you know!? Restylane is a very versatile product and can also be combined with Botox to achieve facelift-like results! It is the best non-surgical way to turn back the clock and look radiant in no time. We spoke about it here

Restylane is the gold standard brand that Dr Clark uses, is a minimally cross-linked gel with a HA concentration of 20 mg/ml.  It is based on HA particle dimension, which is established during a sizing process during the division of the gel. Restylane has a particle size of 250 microns and is most appropriate for mid-to-deep dermal injections. This means the product Dr Clark is injecting matches the skin particle size to ensure the product stays where he puts it, for ultimate aesthetic results.

Advancing the aesthetic industry

We’ve come a long way since cross-linked collagen. We used to be comfortable with just treating the occasional nasolabial fold. Now Dr Clark masters advanced treatments such as refilling and reshaping the face. Take a look at this blog post on the evolution of dermal fillers uses

This was all quite scientific but we hope it made sense to you? Of course if you have a question about dermal fillers or any other treatment we offer at SAI, feel free to post it here and we will get back to you soonest.
