Five Favourites for a Fresh New Skin Surface
If you are struggling with post-winter skin, here are five proven options available for you at SAI. Take a look and be inspired to invest in some skin support to get over the end-of-winter skin slump.
1. Microdermabrasion
What to Expect?
- Minimally invasive treatment.
- Performed In-Clinic. Average time: 30 – 60 minutes.
- Comfortable; not painful. No downtime required.
- Best results seen after 1 to 3 treatments.
Ideally suited for: Reviving dull skin, uneven skin tone, fine lines, or enlarged pores.
Mechanism of Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is a type of physical exfoliation using a hand-held device. This treatment focuses on the epidermis and its uppermost layer of skin known as the stratum corneum. It employs micro-crystals or diamonds along with steam and suction to slough away dead cells on the skin surface. It stimulates new growth and enhances collagen production for healthier and firmer skin as a result.

2. Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy
What to Expect?
- Minimally invasive treatment.
- Performed In-Clinic. Average time: 30 – 60 minutes.
- Comfortable; not painful. No downtime required.
- Results take up to a month to appear. Treatment series specific to what is being targeted, average of 1 to 3.
Ideally suited for: Rejuvenating skin via an increase of dermal collagen, reducing wrinkle depth, evening skin tone, melasma, acne scars, and hair regrowth.
Mechanism of PRP Therapy
PRP uses an individual’s own blood which is drawn, then placed within a centrifuge to be spun at high velocity to separate out the platelet rich plasma. This potent isolate is rich in growth factors and regenerative and healing properties which are utilized via intradermal or subdermal injections. PRP may also be applied topically, following a Dermpen treatment. The production of collagen, elastin and other skin health essentials are boosted following PRP Therapy which boasts exceedingly low risks, especially for those with allergies.
3. Dermapen
What to Expect?
- Minimally invasive treatment. Face & body applications.
- Performed In-Clinic. Average time: No longer than 1 hour.
- Topical Anaesthetic use allows procedure to be pain-free. Mild discomfort following. No downtime required.
- Results require three to four weeks. Treatment packages usually consist of 4-6 treatments. Treatments must be spaced correctly, usually 4-6 weeks apart for optimal results.
Ideally suited for: Tighten skin, acne and acne scars, deeper lines and wrinkles, burn scars, dermatoses, cellulite, and stretch marks.
Mechanism of Dermapen
Dermapen is a patented micro-needling motorized hand-held device which regulates the pressure and depth of very fine needles into the dermis. The depth they reach is adjusted depending on where they are being used and what concerns are being treated. Dermapen relies on precisely created micro-injuries which initiate the Healing Cascade and prompt collagen production. It also creates fine channels in the skin which can carry up to 80% more topical ingredients*. Directly following Dermapen treatment is the ideal time to apply a thoughtfully chosen cosmeceutical. Their enhanced absorption translates into skin that repairs and resurfaces itself with improved texture and reduction of blemishes. Source 1.
4. Chemical Peels
What to Expect?
- Minimally invasive treatment. Face, chest, neck, and back are suitable treatment areas.
- Performed In-Clinic. Average time: 30 – 60 minutes.
- Mild or moderate peels are fairly comfortable with a slight tingling sensation often reported. No official downtime required but depending on the strength of the peel, a day up to a week may pass before signs of the peel such as redness or flaking are completely gone.
- More powerful peels often require anaesthetic and may require sedation. A minimum of a week of required downtime is needed and potentially more.
- Results seen within three days or when post-peel symptoms subside. Final results could take up to three months.
Ideally suited for: Sun damage, wrinkles and lines, uneven skin texture, skin discolouration, superficial scars, some types of acne.
Mechanism of Chemical Peels
Chemical Peels provide chemical exfoliation across a range of strengths. Active ingredients which affect the strength and depth of a peel are carefully considered and professionally chosen in close consideration with Client’s goals, needs, and skin requirements. Individuals who are not eligible for the most intense peels are often able to achieve excellent results with a series of lighter peels. Chemical Peels dissolve the bonds between old skin cells so they can be cleared out with improved cellular turnover. With time, improved skin texture and firmness is achieved through stronger skin base structures. Following the peel, topical solutions may be applied, and after-care will be advised for the type and potency of the peel you received.
Mild peels may be regularly scheduled, medium peels less often. A strong peel is never done on a regular basis as the results last for many years.
5. Full Circle – Homecare
What to Expect?
- Non-Invasive Treatment.
- Performed at home. Average time: 10 minutes.
- Comfortable, even relaxing or pleasurable.
- Results improve with daily use.
Ideally suited for: Achieving daily fresh skin that is vibrant and resilient to becoming out of balance. Skin health and barrier repair and maintenance. Protection of skin against environmental stress. Reduction and prevention of visible ageing including the formation of wrinkles. Clearing of debris that would otherwise contribute to blackheads, breakouts, and dermal inflammation.
Mechanism of Action
Professionally created formulations with active ingredients allow for gentle yet powerful anti-ageing and moisturising affects. The foundation of all homecare routines is an appropriate cleanser that performs a light daily exfoliation. This is vital to remove daily grime, reduce inflammation, and create the correct foundation for other product.
Opalesce Cleanser offers visible affects in the short term which build on themselves for increased improvement in dermal health overtime. Plus, it is suitable for all skin types in any condition, so you can start using it without delay!
Get the Best with More than One
Aesthetic therapies are often used in combination. Generally speaking, combinations allow for focused treatment of distinct problem areas while simultaneously restoring and building skin health.
For instance, selective and deliberate inclusion of various types of exfoliation and resurfacing techniques while simultaneously restoring and promoting optimal hydration allows for a holistic approach that supports skin from within and without.
A multi-pronged approach creates longer-lasting solutions that diminish common skin woes, prevent future problems, and slows down signs of ageing for results that last longer.
One of a wide variety of sample combinations looks like:
- Microdermabrasion – in order to precision treat winter rough spots.
- Dermapen – to build Skin Health and enhance cellular care.
- Opalesce – to clean, stimulate and protect daily skin.
- Chemical Peels – regularly scheduled to ensure adequate cellular turnover.
