Does Laser Hair Removal work?
5 Questions to help you make the best decision
Each year, at SAI, we treat hundreds of laser hair removal patients, and when we sat down to discuss our continued commitment to improved service we discovered a common thread of confusion amongst some patients. We asked each other what the most common questions, queries and opinions were with regard to laser hair removal and decided to answer them here.
We came up with 5 truths that you should look for before embarking on a hair removal treatment plan.
Much of the confusion lays at the feet of the internet, as so much information online is false or misleading. Our 5 questions will help eliminate:
- Poor service levels,
- Laser quality and
- Ensure you are under no illusions to what you are paying for.
Question 1 – Is this laser approved for hair removal on my skin type and colour?
The history and evolution of laser hair removal began with treatment protocols for dark hair. Treatments required dark hair follicles to absorb heat energy to destroy the hair in its growth phase. This limited the patient base, and patients with light skin and blonde hair were not seeing promised results.
Today at SAI we use the Palomar platform for hair removal. Technology now allows us to treat the hair shaft and not the follicle. This means accurate and expected results in all skin types and hair colour.
Question 2 – What is the spot size of the laser?
A spot size is treatment area per “zap” of the laser. It makes sense that a larger spot size makes for a faster treatment, but also this translates into a safer treatment, as less laser light is scattered out of the treatment site damaging surrounding tissue. A smaller spot size, however, makes for an extremely accurate treatment.
Today at SAI we have the ability to alter the spot size to suite the treatment area. This maneuverability does not diminish treatment accuracy nor the treatment effectiveness.
Question 3 – What type of cooling system is the laser equipped with?
Many people misinterpret this question as to keep the laser machine cool, but it is in actual fact a means to keep the patient comfortable. It is important that a laser uses state of the art consistent cooling in order to ensure patient safety and comfort.
The better the cooling, the more comfortable the patient. Simple.
Question 4 – Is there a qualified doctor on the premises during the treatment?
Complications with new technology lasers for hair removal are extremely rare, even so it is important to know that there will be trained medical advice should it be required.
At SAI Dr Clark is onsite to offer medical advice, so too is Nicolette who is a qualified nurse. Safety is of paramount importance to Dr Clark and his SAI team.
Question 5 – Are treatments sold in a package or one at a time?
Each individual will respond differently to treatment cycles, so having the ability to purchase packages or individual treatments allows you the patient to choose when your treatment is sufficient.
At SAI we offer package deals for affordability and single treatments for touch ups and maintenance hair removal treatments. What is important to know is that the team at SAI is looking out for your best results at all times.
Hair removal is massively popular treatment worldwide, and, if treated in the right hands with the latest technology, can lead to fast and genuine results in fewer sessions.
