Skin issue #1: Uneven Pigmentation
Uneven pigmentation or hyper-pigmentation is a common skin concern that can be exacerbated by various factors. The most famous origin is UV light that creates sun-induced hyper-pigmentation. However, it is important to remember that inflammation will also contribute to the issue. As we age, sun damage from years past often showcases in darker areas of ‘sun spots’ and discolouration following blemishes and breakouts can be stubborn to resolve. Areas of darker pigmentation showcased on the dermis are the result of Melanocyte skin cells which are responsible for pigment within cells. They are notoriously unstable cells responding to internal and external forces including hormones, UV, and especially heat. Thankfully, they can be diminished and areas of hyper-pigmentation can be successfully treated. Here are a few go-to aesthetic options for how and where to start.
First Step Skin Resolution Treatments
Chemical Peels – Superficial chemical peels are an excellent choice for shedding pigmentation. These can be formulated specifically for UV created pigmentation and can be highly individualized for those with finicky skin. They are suitable for skin across the colour gradient. Chemical Peels address pigmentation in several ways. They boost cellular turnover, bringing new cells to the surface and they also decrease the existing melanocytes within skin. They do not rely on or include any source of heat which means less chance of inflammatory reactions which could further the pigmentation predicament. Dr Clark is well-versed in formulating and choosing Client-specific peels that are safe for skin yet capable of providing desired results. Depending on your skin’s condition, one chemical peel may be sufficient or a series of scheduled peels may be recommended. Undergoing a Chemical Peel is more relaxing than you might think with less than 60minutes of clinic time required and no recovery downtime expected for superficial peels.
Microdermabrasion – This reliable treatment combines teeny tiny crystals or a diamond tipped instrument along with suction to target specific areas of problematic pigmentations. This is ideal for darker ‘sun spots’ or scarring. It gently and painlessly abrades the top dermal layers, removing the darkest visible pigment. It is a type of manual exfoliation and works to bring fresh, radiant, lighter skin to surface. Learn more here.
IV Skin Brightening – Safe and relaxing this intravenous treatment works from the inside out. It allows for deep hydration on a cellular level which allows for cells to be at their best. It also delivers powerful antioxidants such as Vitamin C along with Glutathione. Glutathione inhibits melanin production to stop pigmentation creation at its inception. Homecare & Sunblock – Start and end here! Address pigmentation with active ingredients from the comfort of home. These can bolster against daily stressors, fight triggering inflammation, and much more. Avoid future damage by investing in well-chosen suncare which guards and blocks UV light from creating cellular havoc to begin with. There is a range of products that include oil-free, sprays, and foundation with SPF included.
Skin issue #2: Deepening wrinkles on my face
Fine lines and wrinkles emerge as our skin ages. Visible ageing is the natural consequence of chronological age but frequently this process is accentuated and accelerated. For instance, weather, pollution, inadequate personal activity levels, insufficient nutrition, and poor sleep quality are all capable of causing us to age faster. While it is not possible to control the weather, we can make pro-active choices that are anti-ageing! These may include reorganizing calender priorities for better sleep and regular exercise, changing our shopping habits and meal preparation. For most of us, wearing sunblock daily would be our best prejuvenation protocol. Medical Aesthetics has refined a host of specific remedies for premature ageing. These include in-clinic treatments that can propel you forward quickly as well as active skin protocols that work daily (and nightly) to support and restore.

Skin issue #3: Bikini body conscience
Highveld summer climes can encourage the shedding of layers. When skin uncommonly bared sees the sun it’s not always done with comfortable confidence. While the body-positivity movement has achieved quite a bit; it is not uncommon for individuals to feel self-conscious in a swimsuit or summer fashion. The most commonly expressed concerns include cellulite, varicose veins, and body shape. Here is how SAI provides a non-surgical Resolution for each of these.

Mesotherapy Resolves Cellulite – The dimpling uneven surface on the skin that defines cellulite is a complaint for most women. Thankfully cellulite can be addressed effectively without need of invasive procedures like liposuction. At SAI, Dr Clark employs Mesotherapy & Cellucare to eliminate cellulite and create smooth skin. Mesotherapy involves the injection of ingredients precisely where stubborn cellulite deposits are proving resistant to change. These ingredients then work to break down the fat cells so the body can absorb and remove them. Sclerotherapy – The presentation of varicose veins is influenced by lifestyle, pregnancy, genetics, and unknown causes. Sclerotherapy is a non-surgical procedure that inserts medicine within the veins themselves causing them to shrink and eventually disappear. Treatment is simple and takes under an hour to complete. Compression stockings are recommended following treatment to aid in the process. Depending on the size of the veins more than one treatment may be recommended but often one is enough.
